Let’s start with “Paro” the only district in Bhutan with an international Airport – home to some of the ancient Buddhist monasteries and temples. Next, is Thimphu – the capital city, the cultural hub of Bhutan, and home to Motihang Takin Nature Preserve. Next up is Punakha –. This city where Pungthang Dewachen Phodrang (Palace of Great Happiness) is located. Next is Wangdue Phodrang - A Heaven for all the trekkers. You can also visit Phuentsholing, Trongsa, and Bumthang – all of which tell a story of amazing Bhutan, gives you astonishing views of the mountains and Peaceful monasteries.
By Air: International Airport in Paro & 1 Domestic airports in south-central Bhutan (Gelephu Airport). Flying to Bhutan is an experience in itself, during fine weather you can witness views of Mt. Everest, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Lhotse.
By Road: Via Road, there are only three borders open to international tourists ( Phuentsholing, Gelephu & Samdrup). You can hire a taxi or bus to cross the border. Phuentsholing is a four to five-hour drive from Bagdogra Airport, India. Samdrup is also situated 150 kms away from Guwahati, India and the drive takes approx 3 hours.
Value for Money
The cost of living in Bhutan is similar to that of in India. A Water bottle will cost you approx Rs 20, Meals at local restaurants/cafes cost approx Rs. 300-500 for two and local transport can charge Rs. 20-50 approx for a one-way ride. Accommodation in Bhutan ranges from mid-range guesthouses/motels to luxurious resorts, Prices ranging from Rs. 1,200 - Rs. 25,000 for a night. I traveled to Bhutan on a Group tour Planned by Shree Rajyash Holidays, Mumbai. So my Package covered all the expenses in advance so I really don’t have to pay anything extra anywhere.
